The COVID pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of our lives, including our powersports adventures. Thankfully, it is possible to safely ride your ATV, UTV, or dirt bike at an Oklahoma powersports park. But you will need to take the proper precautions and do some proactive preparation.

Here at Maxey's Motorsports, we strive to make your life easier. We created the following guide to COVID safety recommendations for visiting Oklahoma powersports parks. Below you'll find tips for safe riding during the COVID pandemic.

1. Check That The Powersports Park Is Open

The first step is choosing where you want to take your powersports vehicle. Most powersports parks are open now, but it's always wise to double check before you make the trek over. Powersports parks can always close temporarily in response to a sudden spike in COVID cases. Plus, there's the standard reasons for closures: holidays, bad weather, needing to close while part of the park gets upgraded, the owners are on vacation, and so on.

2. Be Prepared For Facility Closures

The riding trails may be open, but other aspects of the park may still be closed. You can look up specifics on the powersports park's website or prepare for everything to be closed.

Bathrooms may not be open, so you may want to coordinate a restroom alternative. On-site food stands and general stores may be closed, so you will want to pack along enough supplies. Overnight lodging may be available, but in limited supply, so be sure to make reservations early.

3. Bring The Proper Cleaning Supplies

You will need to bring your standard powersports gear, as well as some extra COVID-specific supplies.

Be sure to pack:

  • Face masks for everyone in your travel party. If you are visiting for more than one day, pack extra masks.
  • Hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol content.
  • Hand soap.
  • Bleach or alcohol wipes.
  • Paper towels.
  • Plastic bags to store dirty masks that need to be cleaned when you get home.

4. Follow The COVID Safety Guidelines

When you visit a powersports park, you will still need to follow the standard COVID safety protocol.

Everyone needs to wear a face mask. It should be made from at least two layers of woven cotton fabric. It also needs to cover your nose and mouth. Wash your hands before putting the mask on and after taking the mask off. You should also wear a new, clean mask each day.

When you wash your hands, make sure to do so for at least 20 seconds. Try to wash your hands after touching high contact surfaces, such as door handles. If you are unable to wash your hands at the moment, use hand sanitizer and then wash your hands when a sink is available.

Follow social distancing protocol, leaving at least six feet between yourself and others.

Finally, be sure to disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items. For example, regularly clean your powersports vehicle's keys, the model's handlebars, and your cell phone.
