Product History

The Polaris Ranger® was the company’s first UTV and was actually created for reasons that might surprise you. Founder Edgar Hetteen was looking for a way to enjoy powersport vehicles with his wife. He wanted an ATV that could accommodate a second passenger, right by his side. That’s why he created a 6x6 machine with side by side seating.

While these vehicles weren’t the first UTVs released to the public, they were among the original models that started the movement. The company decided on a steering wheel over handlebars, as well as a ride-in style vehicle. The initial models topped out at about 25 mph and had a higher hauling capacity with easier handling and fantastic off-road capabilities.

The UTV was an instant success, particularly in labor-intensive sectors, but since then, these machines have received many improvements. Better suspensions, higher towing capacities, improved ergonomics, more power, and much more have all made these models incredibly useful to a wide range of owners. Now you can even customize features to perfectly fit your needs.

Today’s models have come a long way from the initial release. Now, you can find Polaris Ranger® options that feature premium in-cab comfort, no matter how many seats you need. You can get over 13 inches of ground clearance and over 2000 pounds of towing capacity, not to mention an insanely high payload limit. While Polaris Ranger® models are traditionally used as workhorses, you’ll find these machines are quite versatile.
